There’s hardly anything more enchanting than a Roman holiday – at least not in my book. Sip a glass of wine while over-looking the buzzing piazza’s and simply enjoy “la dolce far niente” (the sweetness of doing nothing). Any holiday should be spent in a gorgeous hotel – these five are amongst Rome’s best boutique hotels, and some of them are even well-kept secrets.
Don’t be fooled by it’s, well, rough name; the 10-suite hotel located a stone’s throw from Piazza Navona brings together the best of the Eternal city. G-Rough is located inside a historic 17th century palazzo, but don’t expect romantic, fluffy interior. Everything has been stripped back, allowing the original features to stand out. Topped off with modern design, this place feels both unique and luxurious. Guests can immerse themselves in fun activities such as gladiator training (!) and becoming a handbag designer for a day.
Prices from €318 per night.
J. K. Place Roma
Having received several awards and lots of praise from both travellers and the international press, there’s no doubt that J.K. Place Roma is a hot spot in the romantic city.
Located in the former School of Architecture, this intimate boutique hotel oozes style, elegance and a feeling of home. Let the staff organize a picnic for you, explore Rome by e-bike, or go for a morning run with a local fitness trainer. Of course, you can also just stay in and enjoy the relaxed vibes and wonderful food.
Prices from €600 per night.
3. The Fifteen Keys Hotel
The scene is set when arriving at this gorgeous Roman townhouse; you need to ring the bell to get in. The perfect urban refuge, Fifteen Keys is a paradise for anyone loving sleek elegance, 1950s furniture and genuinely good service. Borrow one of the vintage bikes to explore the city, enjoy a drink at the bar, or simply indulge in doing nothing in the cosy courtyard. As the name implies, there are only 15 rooms here, and some of them offers a terrace.
Prices from €120 per night.
4. Portrait Roma
This 5-star hotel might be on the more expensive end, but with its only 14 exquisite rooms and incredible elegance, it deserves a spot on the list.
Owned by the Ferragamo family (yes, the clothing brand), Portrait Roma feels much more like a private townhouse than a hotel. The rooftop offers gorgeous panoramic views of Rome and the staff is super service-minded. There’s no restaurant, but the hotel’s location of top of the Ferragamo flagship store, makes shopping very easy!
Prices from €550 per night.
5. Villa Laetitia
If you’d like to try living like a (wealthy) Roman family, you should check in to Villa Laetitia. Set inside a bright Liberty-era villa (owned by another fashion family – Fendi), stepping in here feels like arriving in a past era. It’s a secluded urban retreat tucked away from all the noise of the city, giving its guests the opportunity to completely relax. The 21 rooms are located in both the villa and the historic garden.
Prices from €83 per night.
