It’s no secret that Geneva is home to some of the most luxurious hotels in Europe. Swiss hospitality, traditional luxury and comfortable discretion equals the perfect hotel experience, at least in my opinion – and Le Richemond is no exception. This hotel keeps the perfect balance of business and pleasure, for which reason I can’t wait to return.
Could this be your next holiday getaway?
Luxury in the heart of Geneva
Le Richemond first opened its doors in 1875 making it a grand dame in the industry.
The hotel is neatly situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, overlooking the famous Jet d’Eau and idyllic Brunswick Gardens, which means you’re in the heart of the city within a few minutes.
On arrival, you’re welcomed by a lobby made of marble, golden details and lots of fresh flowers, which seems to be one of the trademarks of the hotel. Behind the delicate details it’s obvious that this place is popular amongst business travellers from all corners of the world, but it still manages to keep this intimate and warm-hearted atmosphere, which is not so common in most business and conference hotels.
Spacious suites and marble bathrooms
The friendly staff instantly took care of our luggage and we were showed to our Executive Suite with a private balcony and view towards the Alps. Le Richemond offers a wide selection of different room types to cater for all needs, but prices start around 500 CHF pr. night for a Superior Room.
The most luxurious room is the Ambassador Suite offering a stunning 125 m2, but that’s a whole different story…
Our Executive Suite spoiled us with a king size bed, a private balcony and, the best thing, a large marble bathroom with integrated flat screen TV and heated mirrors (to avoid steam)! Even though the view from the balcony wasn’t the best (overlooking a court yard instead of Lake Geneva and J’et d’Eau), the marble bathroom and large walk-in wardrobe instantly made me forget this! Yes, the walk-in wardrobe offers plenty of space for travellers carrying a lot of luggage, and even though I didn’t, it was a cool feature, which I had never experienced before.
Relaxation of body and mind
The hotel also accommodates a true wellness haven, which I had the pleasure of visiting on the day of my arrival. Le Spa by Sisley might not be big, but it offers luxurious wellness treatments supported by the French skincare brand of Sisley. Onaromacology is one of the key ingredients at the spa (the science of relaxing body and mind through the use of fragrance) and it truly does wonders if you’re stressed out and tired. You don’t have to book a treatment to experience the magical atmosphere of Le Spa, but it’s recommendable in order to fully grasp the concept of the hotel – and it proves that well-being and business can actually be easily combined. In addition to the treatment rooms, you’ll also find a relaxation area with loungers, herbal tea, snacks and complimentary drinks. Combine this with a visit to the sauna and steam room.
Snacks & cocktails
Even though Geneva boasts of restaurants and cafés, it’s definitely recommendable to grab a drink and a snack at the hotel. Le Richemond houses a restaurant, Le Jardin, which offers modern, Mediterranean cuisine served in stylish and comfortable settings. The menu consist of fish and meat prepared with seasonal garnish and the chefs are in the top league. If you’re out for a cocktail or a glass of wine before dinner, Le Bar is the place to visit, and light meals and snacks are served throughout the day on the terrace. Last, but not least, Le Lounge offers drinks and cocktails in relaxed settings with contemporary art on the walls.
As I didn’t try out Le Jardin for dinner, I definitely had the chance to get acquainted with the breakfast buffet! Knowing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, it has always played an important role for me when visiting a hotel. And so it was with great pleasure that I could enjoy it in bed! A delightful blend of fresh fruits, homemade croissants and coffee entered the room at 8am, and so the day could begin! For anyone wanting to start the day in a peaceful and delightful manner, this is definitely the way to do it!
Le Richemond is a member of Swiss Deluxe Hotels and one of the most exclusive hideaway in Geneva. Stay here if you need to relax or simply if you’re a fan of exquisite service in beautiful surroundings.
