You don’t have to go all the way to Bali to get a piece of that exotic lifestyle – it can be found in Copenhagen too. Guldsmeden Hotels is a collection of sustainable boutique hotels located in both Denmark, Norway, Côte d’Azur and…Bali! Here’s our experience of a one night stay at Axel Hotel Guldsmeden in the heart of Copenhagen.
A home away from home
Eco-friendly options are still ‘the new black’ – also in the travel business, where both hotels and airplanes opt for greener solutions. Staying at an eco-friendly hotel doesn’t have to be a dull experience, in fact it can be rather relieving to view things from another perspective. All Guldsmeden hotels are Green Globe certified, which means that both food, beverages, toilet paper and towels are 90-100% organic. Axel Hotel Guldsmeden is a charming and cosy get-away offering a touch of Bali everywhere you go; from the urban spa to the homely reception and lounge area. You will have a hard time finding a hotel in Copenhagen that offers a more homely and welcoming atmosphere than here! From the moment one steps inside, it’s almost impossible not to unwind from the hectic world outside.
A touch of Bali
Axel Hotel Guldsmeden is located a few steps from the main central station and just 5 minutes from the city center, making it a perfect hotel for leisure travelers. Everything is within reach – including a wide range of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Oh, and let’s not forget Tivoli, which is located just a short walk from here.
We stayed in a Double Superior room, which didn’t disappoint with its cosy blend of Balinese interior design and view towards the court yard. The room had a decent size and many great details such as two (!) large flat screen TV’s, a lounge area and probably the most cosy bathroom I have seen in a great while. Last-mentioned was of course furnished with original Balinese lamps, shelves and decorations – and most importantly, a large bath tub with signature products. It’s quite clear that the entire spirit of the Guldsmeden chain is to welcome guests and make them feel relaxed from the very beginning – something, which is definitely reflected in the rooms as well. We can’t recommend a Superior room to families with children – they might opt for something a little bigger – but it certainly sets the perfect frame for a romantic get-away for two!
Spa and organic breakfast
During our stay I had the pleasure of enjoying the spa, which is located in the basement of the hotel. Also here, the enchanting Balinese atmosphere welcomes guests and presents a cosy wellness area with a jacuzzi, a cold tub and a sauna. Unfortunately, the steam bath was out of order during our visit, but the complimentary coffee-, salt- and sugar scrubs made up for that. Guests are required to pay an extra fee for spa entrance, but it’s definitely recommended to do so, as it only completes the whole experience at the hotel.
One of the highlights of our stay was the signature breakfast in the morning. If you’re into diverse breakfast buffets with healthy options, this one’s for you! The breakfast is completely organic and if you eat enough of it, the hotel promise that you won’t feel hungry again before dinner! The buffet offers anything from bread, croissants and eggs to cold cuts, bacon, different cheeses, bowls of fresh fruit, cakes – and of course the special vanilla yoghurt topped with homemade cereal, acacia honey and almonds. An absolute treat and the best possible way to start off the day!
The restaurant also serve homemade tapas and hot meals with ingredients balanced to the season. Last, but not least, it’s recommended to do as I did; snuggle up with a glass of wine and a good book in one of the many soft couches either before or after dinner.
Axel Hotel Guldsmeden is an obvious choice for families and couples looking for an extra cosy and homely hotel stay in Copenhagen. The hotel offers great conference and meeting facilities as well, and the location doesn’t get much better in terms of public transportation and sightseeing. Visitors not planning an overnight stay should at least pass by for the brunch, which lasts till 12am on weekends.
