Welcome to Hotel Copenhagen Island; a modern hotel combining Nordic design with a unique location towards the sea. With only 10-15 minutes walk to the very heart of the city, this hotel is the perfect choice for families or couples who wish to enjoy a weekend in Copenhagen.
Waterfront architecture
From the very minute you pass the entrance to the hotel your eyes start wandering. The characteristic look of the popular architect Kim Utzon makes a clear statement with its wide windows, steel features and heaps of light. Even though there are no traditional signs of ‘cosiness’ – or hygge as they say in Denmark – one instantly feels at home when entering the reception. The fact that the hotel is located on an actual island – even if it is very small – imparts yet another interesting dimension to the whole experience. Once you step foot on the island, you step away from the hectic everyday life outside.
The hotel offers four different room types; Standard, Superior, Executive and Junior Suite. Some of the rooms provide views to the city, whereas most Superior (our room) and Executive rooms are facing the waterfront. Our room was not very big, but the view certainly compensated for this. Also, we could check off free wifi, a flat screen television and a well-assorted minibar from the list. Pretty much everything you need for a short stay in the city.

The Harbour
Guests craving a meal, a snack or just a glass of wine can visit ‘The Harbour’. Last-mentioned is the hotel’s own restaurant built in split-levels with large glass facades providing exquisite views of the harbour – especially at night. The restaurant, which can seat up to 226 guests at a time, offers a la carte and an international menu. The place is not a gastronomical adventure, especially not if you are here to get a bite of the New Nordic cuisine, but it allows you a first class view to the busy waterfront.
The breakfast buffet, though, was one of the absolute highlights during the stay. In weekends it is usually quite full, so come as early as possible. Yes, it is international breakfast, but with clear references to the Nordic food scene – and we love it! Plenty of home-baked bread, pastries, assorted cold cuts, cheese, different jams, English breakfast and a wide range of coffee and tea. No excuses not to indulge in a little extra calories.

Hotel Copenhagen Island also offers great meeting and conference facilities, and it is definitely a suitable location for business travelers, as it is located less than 15 minutes from the airport. Right next to the hotel you will find Copenhagen Mall ‘Fisketorvet’ and a large cinema and you can reach the city center in just 10 minutes by foot. An ideal location for design enthusiasts or anyone else looking for a great four star hotel in Copenhagen.
