Before embarking on my Swiss Tour earlier this year, I went to Amsterdam for a few days to stay at the Westcord Fashion Hotel. With a location right between the Schiphol Airport and Amsterdam’s city center, it allows you to reach both within a short time. It’s an ideal hotel for business people looking for modern and comfortable settings – but it’s equally worth checking out if you’re into sky bars and fashion.
A modern breathing space
Let’s face it; as charming and inspiring it is to stroll around a buzzing city just to capture the heart and soul of it – the more relieving it actually is to come home to a hotel where you feel at home. Such a hotel is the Westcord Fashion Hotel. With a location just 15-20 minutes from the city center and opposite an idyllic park, there’s plenty of room for relaxation here. This is one of the more contemporary hotels I’ve stayed at, so if you’re looking for old-school vibes and Dutch culture, you should go elsewhere.
On top of Westcord Fashion Hotel, you’ll find the SKYY bar (hosted by SKYY vodka) with views over Amsterdam. One of the best parts! The entire hotel is decorated with contemporary art and fashion items to honour the neighbouring World Fashion Centre. The hotel’s approach to art is definitely new and something you don’t find in a lot of other hotels.
I arrived quite late in the evening where I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who informed me of the different facilities of the hotel. I went to my double room located on the 4th floor, and a plate of chocolate, fresh fruit and a sweet note from the Hotel Manager awaited me there. What a great way to start!
Westcord Fashion Hotel offers 260 rooms in total allocated on four different room types; Large Fashion Twin rooms, Large Fashion Double rooms, Extra Large Fashion Triple rooms and the Royal Suites with balconies. I stayed in a Large Fashion Double room, which didn’t provide any greater surprises, but the bed was big (win!) and the bathroom well-equipped with both a shower and a bathtub.
If you want to stay in for a bite it’s possible to do so in the ‘Fashion’s Restaurant & Bar’ located on top of the hotel and why not order a drink in the SKYY bar afterwards? Cocktails vary from the traditional ones such as ‘Dark’n’Stormy’ to the hotel’s own signature drink (and my personal favourite); Skyy Is The Limit.
As much as I love wellness and spa treatments my schedule unfortunately didn’t allow me to visit the hotel’s spa area; Wellness Garden. But if you’re a guest here, it’s definitely recommendable to visit at least the swimming pool and the Turkish steam bath, as it’s free of charge. Other treatments like massage, pedicure and facials can be booked through the reception.
As the keen reader might have noticed, I’m a fan of breakfast buffets, as I believe they indicate the standard of the hotel in so many ways. The breakfast at Westcord Fashion Hotel didn’t disappoint me. The selection was actually quite big and consisted of anything from scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages to fruit salads, yoghurt and pastries. Also here, the staff was friendly and very helpful.
Westcord Fashion Hotel is a great place for business travellers, but families also stay here due to the high level of comfort and reasonable prices. As mentioned before, the location is not exactly central, however, public transportation is very easy to reach and both trains and trams will take you directly to the city centre.
I can recommend this hotel to anyone in need of a genuine 4 star accommodation when visiting Amsterdam – and anyone with a taste for delicious cocktails!
